The Cabin House, Bangalore

Catapulted from an inclination to retreat from urban realitie, The Cabin House reimagines the pre-pandemic notion of dwelling through a quiet reflection of modern lifestyle and vernacular nuances. Envisioned as a one-bedroom weekend home for a family of three, the design evolves from a simple brief of experiencing nature at close quarters.

Nestled amidst the lush greenery of South Bangalor, the rectangular dwelling sits along the East–West axis, embraced by existing jackfruit and mango trees. The ground floor punctuates its rigid form with large pivoted openings, blurring boundaries between the landscape and the residence.

Inspired by simple forms and native bearings, the interior unfolds into a double-height living, dining, and kitchen space, with a mezzanine accommodating the master bedroom. Earthy tones, cement finishes, and warm furniture evoke the setting sun, while cast-in-situ elements anchor the interiors in material honesty. Design elements drawn from vernacular homes are seamlessly fused with a minimal language, allowing spaces to become opportunities for conversation and pause.

Volume shifts, soft landscape barriers, and carefully placed openings negotiate privacy while maintaining a constant dialogue with nature. Guided by compactness and verdant surroundings, The Cabin House dissolves the distinction between the built and the natural, redefining the dwelling as a space for reflection, interaction, and retreat
