AHRA

Ahra is envisioned as a recreational and wellness oasis for a family, conceived as a holistic retreat that brings fitness, relaxation, and rejuvenation under one roof. Set within a larger residential estate, the structure is positioned to embrace sweeping views of Kerala’s paddy fields, backwaters, and distant hillocks, allowing the landscape to shape the experience of the space.

Wrapped in a clean-lined, double-storeyed envelope with generous fenestrations, Ahra blurs the thresh old between indoors and outdoors. A restrained yet tactile material palette, rooted in neo-industrial sensibilities, is designed to age gracefully, lending durability and character to the spaces over time. The ground floor accommodates a gym, private salon, and Kairali massage spa, while the upper level unfolds into an expansive open-plan dance and wellness studio.

A sculptural staircase forms the architectural spine, its teal accents and locally crafted granite and wood details echoing the surrounding greenery. Thoughtful spatial planning, acoustic wooden flooring, and a metal-grid ceiling integrated with lighting create fluid, adaptable zones without physical partitions. Ahra emerges as a serene yet dynamic wellness environment, seamlessly anchored to its natural context.

Sthira

Sthira, derived from the Sanskrit term meaning stillness, is a serene terrace-level recreational lounge designed as a retreat for unwinding amidst nature and family. Conceived within a six-month timeline, the space blends a flexible program with a curated landscape, creating a tranquiloasis suspended above the residence

Set against Kerala’s verdant paddy fields, backwaters, and hillocks, Sthira is envisioned as a light-filled conservatory. A delicate envelope of glass and slender steel members opens the interiors to panoramic views, dissolving boundaries between the built and the natural. Entry through a modest foyer transitions the users into an immersive, calming experience.

At its heart lies a landscaped courtyard, around which the lounge, dining, and multipurpose banquet spaces are organized. Natural materials—Kota stone, Athangudi tiles, slate cladding, cane furniture, and birch plywood ceilings—anchor the design in a balance of vernacular warmth and contemporary restraint. Sliding glass fenestrations lend the structure an airy, alfresco character.

Thoughtful details such as a Kerala floral mural, locally sourced artefacts, sculpted planters, and evolving light through pergolas enrich the sensory experience. Designed for hosting, wellness, and quiet leisure, Sthira embodies stillness through material honesty, fluid planning, and an intimate dialogue with its lush surroundings.
