The Art Retreat is conceived as an immersive landscape-driven sanctuary, where architecture grows in quiet dialogue with nature. Oriented towards the Kabini River along the north-east edge, the built footprint occupies just over half of the four-acre site, allowing the landscape to remain the primary protagonist.
Inspired by the clients’ passion for drama and dance, the retreat is composed of four distinct yet cohesive structures—Studio, Dining, Cottages, and a Private Residence—carefully positioned to respond to local climate and encourage seamless movement between built form and nature. The private residence sits discreetly along the riverbank, with minimal enclosures that dissolve boundaries between indoor spaces and the outdoors, while the studio, dining, and cottages wrap around a central pool, fostering interaction and shared experiences
Rooted in vernacular materiality, exaggerated roof forms, and rammed-earth construction, the architecture balances contemporary sensibilities with climate-responsive design. The Art Retreat offers a tranquil escape—an environment where creativity, performance, and repose unfold in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
