The Monsoon House, Kerala

A seamless amalgamation of traditional roots, stated opulence, and familial warmth Rooted in India’s architectural heritage and traditional craftsmanship, The Monsoon House, also known as Sankalp, is a sprawling family residence set along the fringes of Kerala’s backwaters, framed by lush paddy fields. The architecture reflects a deep commitment to place, climate, and cultural continuity, translating vernacular principles into a refined and timeless home.

Conceived with an outward-looking approach, the two-storeyed residence remains in constant dialogue with its surroundings through large fenestrations, deep overhangs, and expressive volume play. A central courtyard anchors the house, around which living spaces unfold across both levels, allowing light, ventilation, and visual connectivity to permeate the home. Verandah, balconies, terraces, and gardens further dissolve the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living

Inspired by Kerala’s heritage homes, the layout prioritises fluid communal spaces while ensuring privacy within individual family suites. Thoughtfully layered public and private zones, combined with passive cooling strategies, rainwater harvesting, and solar energy integration, allow the house to embrace the monsoon as an integral part of everyday life—celebrating seasonal rhythms through architecture.
