KUBOS :

Set within a lush landscape in Kerala, Kubos reinterprets the traditional courtyard house through a contemporary cubic form. Surrounded by backwaters, mango plantations, and distant paddy fields, the residence is shaped by both its natural setting and the rhythms of a large multi-generational family.

Inspired by the traditional Nalukettu typology, the home is organised around a generous central courtyard that becomes the heart of the dwelling—bringing in daylight, ventilation, and visual continuity across floors. An openable skylight crowns the courtyard, while trees at its centre establish a constant dialogue between architecture and nature.

To manage the scale of the residence, service and served functions are carefully separated. The house is elevated above ground level, allowing a service basement to accommodate parking, utilities, staff movement, and amenities such as a banquet hall and salon.

Living spaces unfold around the courtyard and extend outward toward the surrounding landscape. The formal living room frames views of the backwaters, while dining areas, kitchen, and informal family spaces maintain visual and spatial connections to gardens and fields beyond. A traditional puja mandap and an indoor pool set within landscaped courts further enrich the spatial experience.

Private suites are located on the upper floors, overlooking the courtyard while opening to terraces and decks that capture views of the surrounding greenery. The design balances generous volumes with deep overhangs, verandahs, and balconies—elements that temper scale while responding to Kerala’s intense climate.

Material continuity ties the home together, with marble, stone, timber, and subtle metal accents creating a calm palette that allows light, greenery, and spatial volumes to take precedence.

Rooted in tradition yet expressed through a contemporary lens, Kubos unfolds as a layered sequence of spaces that connect people, landscape, and everyday life.
